If you are a 28-year-old looking at the mirror and horrified at finding a line or two and perhaps even more on your face, what are your options aside from having injections or, worse, surgery?
You can bring out the expensive face creams and serums. But topical treatments, no matter how potent, usually only work after long periods of use and they are usually only preventive. Lines, once they’re on your face, will not go away unless you have fillers (which are injectables).
A new topical treatment promises to temporarily fill out those lines without any pain.
Fillerina by Swiss laboratory Labo Cosprophar is the “first dermo-cosmetic filler for at-home use.” Unlike other facial fillers that need to be administered via injection, the product, which comes with a filler gel, nourishing film and two applicators, is applied topically to the face and neck for a period of 14 days. This process can then be repeated up to three times throughout the year.
Fillerina contains six different hyaluronic acids with varying molecular weights that draw and hold on to moisture resulting in skin that looks plumper and less lined. There are three different grades to choose from depending on the severity of one’s wrinkles. The full range includes a day and night cream along with a lip and eye contour cream.
Hyaluronic acid has a great capacity to hold moisture to keep skin smooth, firm and supple. Hormonal changes, UV exposure and unhealthy diets can lead to dryness, loss of elasticity and the appearance of fines lines and deep wrinkles, no matter how old or young you are.
Before applying the filler gel, users are instructed to drink two glasses of water and wait a few minutes before patting the nourishing film on the forehead, cheeks, nose, chin and neck. Keeping the product in the refrigerator also helps to maintain its efficacy.
Dermatologist Ma. Teresita Gabriel said the key to hyaluronic acids is the weight. Those with heavier weights act on the top layers but lighter HA molecules can penetrate deep beneath the skin.
According to Vizcarra Pharmaceutical, which exclusively distributes Fillerina in the Philippines, the product has 95 percent positive response from product testing volunteers.
Studies showed an average of 21.8 percent and a high of 54.8 percent wrinkle depth reduction, plus an average of 26.3 percent and a high of 48.1 percent in terms of wrinkle volume filling. In terms of lip fullness, there was an average increase of 14.2 percent and a high of 44.7 percent. There was also a noticeable improvement in the cheekbone area with lifts measured at an average id 2.51mm and a high of 3.67mm.
