The 2017 list welcomes 10 new entries, while China, Japan, Singapore and Thailand each count 9 restaurants on the list.

Chef Gaggan Anand’s eponymous temple of modern Indian fine dining, Gaggan in Bangkok garnered the No.1 spot for a third consecutive year, and retains the dual titles of The Best Restaurant in Asia, sponsored by S.Pellegrino & Acqua Panna, and The Best Restaurant in Thailand. Singapore’s Restaurant Andre, a crowd favorite, goes up three slots to claim the No. 2 spot, dislodging consistent second-placer Narisawa restaurant of Japan, that surprisingly slipped down to the number 6 spot.

The Philippines’ sole entry on the list is Gallery Vask, which made it on the list for the second year at 35. Four spots higher than its previous 39, which came as a much welcomed surprise and early wedding present to its owner/chef Chele Gonzalez, who tied the knot last March 1, 2017 in Boracay.

As the Philippine dining scene continues to improve, thanks largely to a new generation of talented young Filipino chefs, Chow Buzz is hopeful that the Philippines will soon have more than one restaurant on the list. That is if, we can get more of the Dining Club judges to visit the Philippines too.

Chow Buzz’s short list of possible new entries from the Philippines in the near future includes; Mecha Uma, Toyo Eatery, The Test Kitchen, Made Nice, 12/10 and Hey Handsome. Most of these restaurants may not be serving Filipino food, but are all run by some of the country’s most talented Filipino chefs.
