Cinco de Mayo—or the fifth of May—is not Mexico’s Independence Day, but instead commemorates Mexico’s victory over French forces during the Battle of Puebla on May 5, 1862. This festive holiday is not only celebrated in Mexico, but its commemoration is also growing each year in the United States and around the world. While it may not be considered a holiday in some countries, including the Philippines, this celebration of Mexican culture is a great excuse to party or just eat Mexican food. So, in no particular order, here’s a short list of our favorite Mexican restaurants in town.
Let the fiesta begin!
Orale! Taqueria Mexicana
The Fort Strip
7th Avenue corner 28th Street, Bonifacio Global City
Tel. no. (+632) 552-2660
Coincidentally, celebrating its first year anniversary on May 5 or Cinco de Mayo is this home-style, California-Mexican inspired taqueria located at the Fort Strip, Bonifacio Global City. This taqueria took the street food concept and brought it indoors, bringing to life a concept that was inspired by the owners’ favorite taquerias and cantinas in California and Mexico coupled with their love for Mexican food in general.
To celebrate Cinco de Mayo and Orale’s first year in the business, guests on May 5 will get the following discounts: For every order of five main dishes in a single receipt, get one (the least expensive) item you ordered for free. Applicable for in-store dining, take-out and pick-up. Plus, buy one and get one free San Miguel Beer or traditional Margaritas on the rocks all day.
Chow Buzz recommended dishes: Carnitas Tacos, Barbacoa Quesadilla, Lengua Burritos, and Grilled Corn in the cob. In lieu, of the usual red chili sauce request for Orale’s green tomatillo sauce instead.

Hermano’s Taco Shop
#27 Granada Avenue, corner Jose O. Vera St., Quezon City

Those who love traditional Mexican cuisine will love Hermano’s. It’s a little off the beaten path, location beside a Gas Station off Gilmore doesn’t deter its loyal fan base from visiting for a bite of what we think would be by far the best fish tacos in town. Hermanos Taco Shop fortunately does not only serve tacos, but also burritos, quesadillas, tamales, menudo and other Mexican staples and had also just opened a new branch in Alabang (Molito Mall) to cater to Mexican food lovers in the South .
Chow Buzz recommended dishes: Fish Tacos, Carnitas Burritos, and Horchata
