Praise for reliable neighborhood restaurants can get lost in the buzz of what’s new around the metropolis, but a recent visit to Pasig City’s restaurant row in Barrio Kapitolyo revealed that Poco Deli is still packing it in even on a stormy weekday night.
A simple meal of bacon slabs on bacon rice served with two eggs may sound boring, but not when it’s smokey bacon made fresh on the premises that same day by the chef /owner herself.
Some people may find its prices a tad on the expensive side for this neighborhood. But the good quality meat and ingredients used in making the homemade bacon and its well-known assortment of preservative-free sausages more than makes up for it.
Aside from the bacon slab meal, Chow Buzz also recommends its Angus Beef Tapa and Nuremberg sausage. It also carries a limited but well-curated selection of wines and imported beers that includes some of Jim Araneta’s (Global Beer Exchange) American Craft beers.
For dessert, grab a scoop of Hot Javan Chocolate Artisanal Ice Cream from Poco’s next door neighbor, Mad Mark’s. Quite a steal at only Php60 per scoop.
Service is usually swift and friendly though it does suffer when it’s filled to capacity. Best to come prepared to wait on a busy night as the food is definitely worth the wait and its calories.
POCO DELI, 21 East Capitol Drive, Kapitolyo, Pasig City. Telephone No. (+632) 477-4332.
