Georgina Wilson, model, former VJ, and Garnier’s latest beauty advocate, showed up at Robinsons Department Store, Ermita last June 2, Saturday, to promote the skincare and haircare brand’s newest product Pure Active.
You’d think that the gorgeous Miss Wilson who is often portrayed in glamorous fashion shoots and seen in high society parties would have nothing in common with the ordinary working Filipina (Wilson is Filipino-British and belongs to the beautiful Diaz clan that includes her aunt, former Miss Universe Gloria Diaz). But she does. Refreshingly candid, Georgina admits she’s not a good shopper and says she’s pretty but not that pretty.
Apparently, Georgina is addicted to online shopping. “Everything is online. I shop online,” the model-host revealed. “I usually look for a specific thing then I find it wherever. I go (at) whatever site and buy online.”
She has no favorite shopping websites but she does love to see the new stuff that Bench and Wade has. Admittedly, Georgina is very bad at shopping, “I always buy everything so I think self control is necessary. I just try and control myself.” She said, describing her shopping habits. That is why she likes to shop with her sister, Jessica, to get a second opinion, and lives by her mom’s advice to shop on a budget, “she always taught me to save my money. “
Georgina on beauty
“I think it’s important not to believe all the good things that people tell you, kasi you will also believe all the bad things,” said Georgina Wilson, when asked if she believes people who point out how beautiful she is.
Georgina has always been known as one of showbiz’s most beautiful faces. Even though she feels flattered by the compliments, she said that words are not enough, “I’m happy when I hear it, but it’s not like I feel super beautiful. I think beauty is more from within—when you’re feeling happy and when you’ve achieved something great or done something good.”
So, apart from the compliments, where does she get her drive?
“If you really feel good about yourself and you look good, then it really has repercussions on your success and on your general motivation,” she said while letting out that quietly confident smile that made her current boyfriend Borgy Manotoc fall in love with her.
“I know what you think na everything is perfect but I’m also the same,” she mused, acknowledging her flaws. “For me, for example Jennifer Lopez is perfect and never feels ugly or anything , but when I hear her say stuff like ‘it’s not always like this’ or ‘it’s just an image.’ I feel like I can relate with her more because it’s so true. It’s not like just because people perceive you to be beautiful, it does not mean that you didn’t go through any insecurities in your life.”
In fact she spills some of her own insecurities, which have been brought from her childhood days, “when I was younger, I was chubbier. When people look at me (now), I still feel like I’m fat.”
There are even days that this pretty face would just want to hide out and would rather stay at home, “I didn’t want to do anything, I wasn’t motivated, and so I also understand how it is to not feel good about yourself. You know, when I have a pimple, I don’t even want to see anybody,” she revealed.
“It’s only normal to have those insecurities; it’s how you handle those moments. I do go through days when I feel really, really ugly. Life has its ups and downs,” disclosed Georgina. “I think it’s very important to achieve your goals for you to feel good about yourself and be the best person you can be. It’s important to take care of how you look. That’s why I think it’s important to go to the gym, to eat well, and to take care of your skin.”
Beauty regimen
She shared a simple routine that she follows by heart, “Take off my makeup with makeup remover oil, and wash my face because I don’t like the residue. I don’t like the feeling of oiliness. I use the (Garnier) Light Scrub, but I also use the (Garnier) Pure active. Then I moisturize. I just do it in the morning and night. Baka, I can do it more often, but I only do it morning and night.
“I cannot stress enough how important it is to use the right product for your skin,” she said. “Trust me on this, using skin products specially formulated to fight blemishes is the right thing to do. After all, once it’s your skin that’s on the line, you wouldn’t want to take it for granted, right?”
Georgina has been described many things: smart, stunning, sexy, and even as the Leighton Meester of the Philippines. She takes all of these in good stride even saying how much she loves Leighton but would rather be called as the Georgina Wilson of the Philippines. “I think I’m happier being myself.”
