Ham do I love thee? Here are the many ways

When ham is served on the dinner table, it used to mean one thing: it’s Christmas Eve. But the sweet glazed ham is also versatile, the remains of the feast gets recycled as a sandwich filling, on fried rice, and in casseroles or pasta dishes.

A brand that’s synonymous with holiday ham is Purefoods Fiesta Ham, which only gets to be available come last week of November or just in time for the Yuletide season. Otherwise, ham cravings are satisfied in the form of sweetened ham slices available year-round in supermarkets’ cold cuts area.

This year, Purefoods has decided to offer their iconic food item beyond the holidays with its Fiesta Ham Smoked Boneless. Mira Rosar of Purefoods says, “After all, Filipino families always have reasons to celebrate, gather, and eat good food. So, why not offer year-round the Fiesta Ham, which has become a staple, whether served as a whole or as part of festive dishes.”

During its product launch held a few weeks ago at Chef Jessie at the Rockwell Center in Makati City, the talented Chef Jessie Sinsioco did an Iron Chef of sorts by presenting a complete meal—from appetizer to dessert—using the smokey and flavorful ham. Present were moms and Purefoods brand “hambassadors” Suzi Entrata-Abrera, Christine Jacob-Sandejas, Barbie Almalbis-Honasan, and Danica Sotto-Pingris who talked about their favorite non-Christmas ham dish.

For celebrity mother Suzi Entrata-Abreira, Sunday is spent reconnecting with her husband Paolo Abrera and her children, Leona, Jade and Nela. For her, Chef Jessie prepared crepe pouches and kebabs made with Purefoods Fiesta Ham Smoked Boneless.

For former Olympian and TV host Christine Jacob’s active lifestyle, it’s salad with fresh greens, topped with passion fruit vinaigrette dressing, and fiesta ham strips. To compliment the salad is a creamy potato soup with small bits of ham and tomato concessé.

Actress and celebrity mom, Danica Sotto, on the other, whose been married to her husband, PBA player Marc Pingris, for five years now shares that the secret to their happy marriage is making sure to schedule date nights. And since Danica also studied culinary arts, Chef Jessie prepared Ham Wellington in creamy mushroom sauce that Danica can prepare for her husband anytime they feel like having a special meal together.
