People have so many excuses not to wear sun protection. These excuses can range from “it’s too sticky” to “sunblock is too expensive.”
But more than serums, moisturizers and treatments, there is nothing more effective against skin aging than applying sunblock every day. A recent study showed that using sunscreen not only helps prevent wrinkles but can also reverse the signs of skin aging.
The study, sponsored by the Johnson & Johnson’s Skin Research Center, showed improvements in the many signs of aging such as fine lines and spots caused by the sun with a daily application of moisturizer with SPF 30. Participants in the study saw improvements of 52 in sun spots, 40 percent in skin texture and 41 percent in skin clarity after a year of use.
“Watsons started its sun protection promotions every summer about eight or nine years ago. We did it to encourage more Filipinos to wear sunscreen,” said Kim Reyes, Watsons Group Category Manager for Skin Care.
“Summer shouldn’t just be about having a beach-ready body. Watsons encourages everyone to have healthy skin. Unprotected sun exposure, after all, has consequences,” she added.
This year’s campaign, called Make Your Summer , is a more wholistic approach toward sun protection.
“This time, Watsons is promoting skin protection not only for adults but also for children as young as eight years old. By offering good deals on your favorite brand, we hope to encourage people to make sun protection a daily habit,” said Reyes.
During the campaign launch hosted by Patty Laurel, guests were treated to fun and educational activities (such as sessions with a VR showing exciting destinations in the Philippines) and short talks on how to properly use sun protection products.
For example, guests were told to use the equivalent of one shot glass (about two tablespoons) to the exposed areas of the sun and body.
Another thing guests learned is the importance of broad spectrum defense. Titanium dioxide and zinc oxide also screen all parts of the UB spectrum, including ultraviolet A and B (radiation). Overexposure to either can lead to skin cancer.
