“I am a watch person. I AM A WATCH PERSON,” gushed Eri Neeman, more popularly known as Boy Back-Up in the popular Boy Pick-Up segment in the TV show “Bubble Gang.”
He hosted the launch of Nixon Philippines at 7th High, The Fort, recently where both extreme sports aficionados and fashionistas were present.
“I think I picked the Chronicle watch,” he told InterAksyon when asked about the timepiece he chose among the items from the California-based premium watch and accessories brand. “The Chronicle black. But I’m pretty sure this won’t be the last one.”
“Very rad, very insane,” was how Freesurf Inc. Chief Operating Officer Mooney Castillo described Nixon’s design aesthetic. Freesurf Inc. is one of the two distributors of Nixon in the country.
“Unique features, cutting-edge,” Castillo added. “They actually cover a lot of areas when it comes to their design and their function. With that combination, it’s an easy buy.”
Guest Michael Muyrong, who works at Vans Philippines, seemed to agree, flashing his The Sentry watch for this writer to see.
“I’ve been a big fan of Nixon since 2004. It suits my lifestyle. I skate, surf.” His sleek, yet funky watch with a black and green striped wristband and a three-hand Japanese quartz face gets a lot of attention, he said.
Though watches may be its pride and joy, Nixon also has headphones, mobile phone accessories, heavy-duty bags, jackets, tank tops, and other products on offer.
To create its trademark “team-designed, custom-built” merchandise, Nixon collaborates with leaders in the fields of surf, skate, snow, and the arts, such as 12-year vertical skating World Champion Tony Hawk, four-time World Champion surfer Lisa Andersen, backcountry snowboarder Iikka Backstrom, and singer-songwriter-producer Santigold.
“I think the Nixon customer or the brand user can range from surfer, skater, snowboarder, someone in the arts industry, someone who listens to music, someone who appreciates design,” said Nixon Asia Brand Manager Marko Dylan Yeo.
Among those “someones” are Jericho Rosales, Luke Landrigan, and DJ Mars Miranda.
“We create products for your everyday lifestyle use,” added Yeo.
Nixon’s latest collections, including Orange Bang, All Black/Black Crystal, and Rose Gold and Chocolate, are available in Billabong, Aloha Boardsports, Five-O Skate Shop, Segnatempo, and Watch Republic.
