Cavite-based Plethora band consisting of LJ Herrera (vocals), Aldrin Isaguire (keyboardist), Jesser Pello (drums), and Andrew Isaguire (lead guitarist) emerged as grand champions in this year’s Greenwich Ultimate Barkada Search.
The band members—along with other contestants—went through almost four months of intense workshops and seminars with the privilege of being mentored by the industry’s leading personalities as well.
Among their mentors were singer, songwriter, producer Thyro Alfaro; rising boy band The Juans; YouTube vlogger and singerDonnalyn Bartolome; and Viva Records music executives MG Mozo, Civ Fontanilla, and Punch Liwanag,
Plethora’s hard work and creativity paid off when they were included in the competition’s list of Top 8 Finalists and eventually, as the grand winner of the Greenwich Ultimate Barkada Search and which also got them a recording contract with Viva Records.
Playing together since they were in high school, the band members consider Metallica as one of their biggest influences, but they’re also very much into neoclassical metal and rock, they also flourish in reggae and alternative—proving that their years of experience has taught them to be versatile.
Vocalist LJ said, “We joined because we really want to inspire, especially the youth. We want to break the stereotype – that musicians are irresponsible and do drugs. We want everyone to know that through music, you can be better, that you, too, can inspire.”
The challenges are not over for the band, as they face bigger mountains ahead. Thanks to the Greenwich Ultimate Barkada Search, they are able to save more for their craft. “We plan to set it aside the prize money and save up because we also need to improve the materials and instruments we use to make our music,” said LJ.
Besides Plethora, second place went to ABCQ and third place to Happy Ending. For more updates, check www.ultimatebandkada.com.
