“Good morning!” exclaims Judy Travis for almost every daily vlog she produces for ItsJudyLife, a familiar and maybe comforting greeting to an avid fan. Her singsongy voice and cheery dispositions are a source of “good vibes” for many and her three beautiful daughters—which includes twins—are a favorite of both men and women alike. Judy, a Filipina-American YouTuber with 1.3 million subscribers, is popular for both her beauty vlogs and her family’s daily adventures.
Her recent visit to Manila in January caused her local fans to clamor. They wanted to see the Travis family in person and her meet and greet held at Samsung Hall at SM Aura was packed with beauty lovers and fans.
Her trip fortunately coincided with the launch of her collaboration with Pixi Beauty, which she launched via the Meet and Greet. True to her joyful personality evidenced by her vlogs, Judy was still chirpy when she entered an intimate gathering of local beauty bloggers and vloggers even after working for almost six hours straight, chatting with 400 of her fans and presenting the palette. Read her interview below on her collaboration, her family life, and daily vlogs.
Ronna Capili Bonifacio (RCB): You have three kids, a husband, a growing career (daily vlogs!)—how do you get everything done?
Judy Travis (JT): To get things done I have a daily schedule. For the daily vlogs I’ll find time to edit when the girls are napping or if my sister-in-law is over to help with the girls, it gives me time to film or to take care of other things on the agenda. I’m so grateful that our families are always willing to help! Without them I wouldn’t be able to get it all done! It really does take a tribe to raise a family.
RCB: How involved were you in the creation of Pixi + ItsJudyTime Eye and Lip Palettes?
JT: I was very involved in the process. I got to feel, swatch, and be there in person during the creating. If there was a color I wanted to add into the palettes but I couldn’t see there, they would send me samples until I found the right one. Petra (Pixi Beauty’s founder) herself helped me with the layout of both palettes and Pixi made sure the scents of the lip palette were just right!
I chose names that were a part of my everyday life for each color in the two palettes. As for the shades named after my girls, those are the everyday colors I wear and that’s why I named those three after them.
RCB: What’s it been like since launching your makeup palettes, and this time being on the other side of the vlog—watching other bloggers or vloggers post about something you created?
JT: It’s exciting and nerve wracking being on the other side because I get to see the pros and cons of something I developed. I appreciate all of the constructive criticism. But it’s especially exciting seeing the looks that other beauty lovers create with the palettes. Seeing each look gives me ideas and inspiration on makeup looks that I create too.
RCB: What was your Manila Meet and Greet like? What were your thoughts and feelings as the day ended?
JT: The Meet and Greet felt like the almost perfect Meet and Greet. It was overwhelming seeing everyone’s faces waiting. I got to meet over 400 of our viewers and hugged each and every person. The feeling was surreal and fulfilling and my heart felt so full. It was so nice to see the palettes in there hands and even seeing the swatches of the colors on them, I really connected and I could tell they were beauty lovers like me!
RCB: How has your being a Filipina and your experience here in the Philippines influenced your take on beauty?
JT: One thing I noticed, especially at the meet up, was that everyone smells so good! Each person I met and hugged smelled so fresh and amazing! Everything from the perfume they were wearing to the scent of the shampoo—I just loved it! And that’s one thing that has always been apart of my life I still recall my mom putting the Baby’s Breath Cologne on me and that distinct smell. Smelling fresh is something that is so nostalgic and I just love.
(Judy vlogged that she was very particular about the scent of the ItsLipTime palette because she’s really big on scents, always sniffing products and particularly lipsticks before reviewing.)
RCB: What beauty trick or advice will you make sure to pass on to your daughters Julianna, Miya, and Keira?
JT: Real true beauty is deep within and it’s something that will never fade.
RCB: Please fill in the blanks: Benji’s favroite look on me is….
JT: Red lipstick because it’s fierce and sexy.
RCB: You’re always so cheerful and positive on your vlogs. Where do you draw that from? And are there every days when you’re not feeling too positive? What do you do to cheer yourself up?
JT: I get it from my Momma. She has always been so supportive of me and has always shared positive affirmations with me growing up. That definitely helped me grow into a confident person.
