In some provinces, a familiar way of cooking is through old-fashioned firewood and kawa or a large vat used for cooking large amounts of food . In Masbate, the kawa is used to make a delicacy while in Negros, it is used to prepare muscovado sugar.
Similar to Negros, people in Antique use the kawa to cook muscovado sugar, until a foreigner who married a Filipina, devised a unique way of utilizing it. He repurposed the iron vat into a tub, which locals now refer to as “hot kawa bath.”
Digressing from the typical ways of going to spas or hot springs, the Hot Kawa Bath is a local experience for relaxation. It started in 1995 for vacationers to enjoy and commune with nature.
Also, it serves as a cool down activity for travelers who have tried vigorous activities offered in the town such as river trekking and river kayaking.
