Community Crafts Associations of the Philippines, Inc. or CCAP products, such as Christmas tree toppers, hanging ornaments, gift boxes, trinket boxes, birdhouses, wind chimes, are made of environmental friendly and recyclable materials. These are produced by marginal handicraft producers from communities in the provinces, providing them livelihood and community development through trading practices called Fair Trade.
“Fair Trade is a trading practice where major principles are applied such as: no child labor, no gender discrimination, good working conditions, fair pricing, fair wage, environmental friendly, culture sensitivity, and accountability,” says Charmaine M. Cruz, a designer for CCAP.
“Most of our best selling products are made of Abaca material or internationally known as Manila Hemp. These products are widely produced in the province of Bicol. The birdhouses are made of indigenous wood and vine materials that are abundant in the mountains of Quezon. The wind chimes are made of a combination of Bamboo and aluminium tubings, made in Antipolo, Rizal,” says Cruz.
CCAP caters mainly to international wholesalers. Nevertheless, local buyers may get in touch with CCAP and purchase items directly or from partner producers.

The handicrafts that Puyo offers are made from abaca fiber which is native to the people of Region Ten. “We convert the abaca in to products. We get the abaca by rolls from the local people of Bukidnon,” Libao shares.
