Palawan continues to charm tourists from all over the world after readers of Travel + Leisure magazine voted the tropical haven as “The World’s Best Island” for the second time.

“For the second year in a row, the Philippine paradise Palawan wins first place as the best island in the world, thanks to its hidden lagoons, teeming ocean life, and rustic-luxe resorts,” the magazine reported.

Palawan landed on the first spot for two consecutive years, and was able to accumulate a score of 93.15 this 2017—besting other islands mostly in Asia on the list. It was first voted as the best island by the same magazine back in 2013.

“Readers rated islands according to their activities and sights, natural attractions and beaches, food, friendliness, and overall value,” Travel + Leisure shared.

The magazine shared one of the reviews of their readers who noted that Palawan is “the single most beautiful place on earth. ”

Department of Tourism Secretary Wanda Teo cheerfully acknowledged the recognition, and said in a statement, “We are truly proud of our country’s Last Frontier for the accolades gained and we enjoin the community, industry and local government leaders to continue preserving this valuable travel jewel for our future guardians and visitors to enjoy.”

Another sought-after Philippine destination, Boracay, also landed third place on the list with a score of 89.67.

Palawan and Boracay were joined by Hilton Head Island, South Carolina (second); Galápagos Islands, Ecuador (fourth); Santorini, Greece (fifth); Maui, Hawaii (sixth); Kauai, Hawaii (seventh); Ischia, Italy (eighth); Hvar and the Dalmatian Islands, Croatia (ninth); and Bali, Indonesia (tenth) on the list.
