MANILA, Philippines — A fire that struck a warehouse in Pasig City Monday night was finally brought under control Tuesday morning, almost 14 hours after it broke out.

The blaze at the third and fourth floors of the warehouse on C. Raymundo, Barangay Caniogan reached Task Force Alpha, meaning units from other districts are needed.

Explaining why it was difficult to put out the blaze, Chief Inspector Nazrudyn Cablayan, operations chief of the Pasig fire department, said the third floor contained electronics and the fourth floor furniture.

He added that they did not know the layout of the building, located on a narrow street far from the nearest hydrant, and could not immediately find the owner, forcing them to fight the blaze only from the outside.

The firefighters had to improvise with a crane for water cannons to reach the flames.

But Cablayan assured residents of the area that the fire was contained and could no longer spread.

Damage from the blaze was estimated at P150 million.
