MANILA, Philippine – A government prosecutor was gunned down Monday morning outside his house in Caloocan City.

Motorcycle-riding men shot Prosecutor Diosdado Azarcon thrice on Galauran Street, Barangay 63, Ninth Avenue while the victim was on his way to his office, radio dzMM reported.

Department of Justice Secretary Vitaliano Aguirre II condemned the killing and instructed the National Bureau of Investigation to look into the incident and hunt down the perpetrators.

Caloocan Police Officer 1 Mark Anthony Ramirez said Azarcon was a veteran prosecutor and handled numerous controversial cases.

He said authorities would investigate whether the prosecutor’s work was linked to his slay.

Based on initial police investigation, the would-be assassins had been waiting for Azarcon to come out of his house and when they found the chance to kill him, they shot him in the head and shoulders and then sped away from the scene of the crime towards 10th Avenue.
