Cabanatuan City – Joint operatives of the Philippine Drug Enforcement Agency (PDEA) based in Nueva Ecija and the Nueva Ecija police provincial office arrested an incumbent barangay councilor and an alleged former member of the New People’s Army in a drug bust operation Tuesday in Barangay Aglipay, Rizal, Nueva Ecija.

According to an initial police report, the suspects were identified as Jayson Tabangay, a resident and councilor of Barangay Agbanawag, Rizal, Nueva Ecija, while his cohort was identified as Edgar Sanchez, a former member of the New People’s Army.

One small plastic sachet suspected to contain methamphetamine hydrochloride (or crystal meth, shabu) and Five Hundred peso bill was confiscated from councilor Tabangay, while seized from Sanchez were eight plastic sachets also containing suspected shabu.

Police said that the two arrested suspects were in the drug watch list of President Rodrigo Roa Duterte.

They are detained in jail and processed for violation of the Comprehensive Dangerous Drugs Act, known as RA 9165.
