MANILA, Philippines — John Paul Solano, one of the suspects in the hazing death of University of Sto. Tomas law freshman Horacio Castillo III, left the Manila Police District early Thursday afternoon, September 28, a day after he was ordered released by the Department of Justices.

The DOJ issued the order on Wednesday saying he should undergo a preliminary investigation and not inquest proceedings since he was not arrested but had surrendered through Senator Panfilo Lacson last week.

Solano was one of the members of the Aegis Juris fraternity who took Castillo to the Chinese General Hospital on September 17, a Sunday, where the law student was declared dead. He turned himself in to Lacon on September 22.

He denied participation in the hazing, saying he had only been called to help resuscitate the already mortally injured Castillo.

Before leaving MPD headquarters accompanied by his lawyer Paterno Esmaquel, Solano reiterated his innocence and promised to tell everything he knew during the preliminary investigation and in court.

He also thanked the MPD and expressed his condolences to the parents of Castillo.

The preliminary investigation is scheduled on October 4 and 9.
