The GlobalPort Batang Pier will play their final Oppo PBA Governors’ Cup game without an import as their supposed last-minute replacement Jamal Thomas was measured over the 6’5″ height limit.

The PBA Commissioner’s Office revealed the news to InterAksyon on Friday just hours before the Batang Pier’s game against the Meralco Bolts.

Thomas, who would have been Batang Pier’s third import this conference, was measured 6-foot-5 and 13/16 then ended up at 6-foot-5 and 15/16 in his second measurement.

“I feel terrible,” Thomas told InterAksyon. “It must be the hair. I should have cut it off.”

A college rival of former PBA import Wendell McKines, Thomas had been confident about making the height limit. Despite the setback, he looks forward to playing in the PBA soon.

“I’ve heard a lot of good things about the PBA. Hopefully, I could play here in the future,” he added.

The incident only added insult to the wounds of the Batang Pier who are already eliminated from playoff contention. They will also miss the services of star guard Terrence Romeo.
