The morning rush hour service of the Manila Metro Rail Transit System (MRT) Line 3, running along EDSA, was disrupted in the heat of the morning rush hour Monday. The cause was a diaper discovered hanging on one of the power lines.

This caused the MRT northbound service between Taft Terminal and Boni Avenue Station to be interrupted for more than one hour.

The transient incident was resolved at past 7:00 a.m., but already the commute of thousands of commuters had already been consigned to unfathomable frustration.

This occurred on a Monday in the thick of the morning rush.

Technical staff had to use a so-called “hot stick”, which is an implement for manipulating objects on a live power line, to remove the diaper.

PBA partylist Representative Jericho Nograles observed that the incident comes after the contract was terminated with the MRT maintenance provider, leading him to entertain the possible angle of sabotage.
