MANILA, PHILIPPINES — Rodolfo “Rudy” Salalima, the first secretary of the Department of Information and Communications Technology (DICT), tendered his resignation letter to Pres. Rodrigo Duterte two weeks ago, a reliable source told Newsbytes.PH.

The same source, however, said Duterte has yet to act on the resignation letter of Salalima, who is a graduate of San Beda Law like Duterte.

Salalima did not answer his phone when Newsbytes.PH tried to reach him for confirmation on his resignation. Newsbytes.PH also broke the news of Salalima’s appointment as DICT secretary last year.

Salalima, a high-powered lawyer for Globe Telecom before he assumed the top DICT post, allegedly detested the various “pressures” on the job so he decided to quit, according to the source.

The DICT is currently rolling out multi-billion projects such as the P1.7-billion free public Wi-Fi initiative and the P1.2-billion National Broadband Program.

Among those being floated to replace Salalima are Ramon “RJ” Jacinto, who is currently presidential adviser on ICT and economic affairs, and current DICT assistant secretary Carlos Caliwara, a Lex Talionis fraternity brother of Duterte at San Beda Law.
