Dear Starbucks PH: Love the Mango Float Cake but we’ll have Turmeric Latte, too

Starbucks Philippines just came out with a delicious new dessert inspired from all-time favorite homemade dessert called Mango Float.

It’s always a treat for Filipinos to enjoy this creamy and luscious no-bake cake created by layering ripe mangoes (or slices of canned peaches) and a sweet cream consisting of condensed milk and regular cream, in between whole graham crackers.

Starbucks’ version has that same oh-so-good richness and sweetness that Filipinos will love. It consists of  creamy mango mousse and meringue as a filling for a moist and buttery cake. Mango buttercream icing gives a lovely finish to this dessert. Now served in Starbucks stores, a slice of Mango Float Cake is Php150 and a whole cake is Php1,450.

Mango Float Cake is just one of the desserts and pastries inspired from Filipino food items and ingredients.

Last year, not long after ube or purple yam became a hot ingredient in the global culinary scene, Starbucks Philippines introduced its Purple Yam Cheesecake with red mung bean and macapuno shreds. This ube cheesecake, priced at Php140 per slice or Php1,550 continues to be one of the café’s bestselling desserts.

Starbucks Philippines’ Purple Yam Cheesecake has gotten mentions in online sites like the LA Times and Pop Sugar.

Well Starbucks has been introducing drinks and food items that are only available to a particular country. Starbucks Philippines’ Mango Float Cake and Purple Yam Cheesecake are two examples. And so, too, are its pandesal with filling and ensaimada.

Well, Hong Kong has Green Tea Red Bean Muffin, Canda has Lemon Raspberry Loaf, and Argentina has a muffin filled with dulce de leche, just to name a few.

Starbucks released Latte with Turmeric on August 28 but we wish they’d bring it the to the Philippines, too. This new drink is available only in London although we know that Filipinos are big turmeric tea drinkers as well. Besides, turmeric because it’s locally grown, too.

On its website, Starbucks describes the pretty drink: “The warming drink is made by steaming milk with aromatic turmeric powder and spices and poured over espresso – bringing a new twist to the much-loved latte. The delicious golden coloured milk is one of the latest trends on the high street and makes beautiful Instagram-able latte art.”

The new drink even comes with dairy alternatives such as Almond or Coconut that both both complement the warm flavors of turmeric.

Besides being known for its aromatic flavor, turmeric or luyang dilaw is also known for its health benefits mainly due to curcumin, a compound found in turmeric. Studies have shown that curcumin can help prevent a lot of diseases such as cancer and diseases that affect the heart, lungs, liver, kidneys, and joints, among others. It also aids in healing wounds, skin allergy, lowering blood sugar, and weight loss.

So how about it, Starbucks?
