Barangay Ginebra San Miguel moved on to the Oppo PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals after cruising past GlobalPort Batang Pier, 96-85, in a match marred by end-game fireworks between star guards LA Tenorio and Terrence Romeo on Tuesday at SMART-Araneta Coliseum.

With Ginebra sitting on a comfortable 89-73 cushion with 3:28 left, Tenorio and Romeo figured in a late-game altercation that spiced up the lopsided game.

The two got tangled in one possession, with Romeo feeling that Tenorio gave him a cheap shot. Romeo fired back by swinging an arm onto Tenorio’s waist.

Tenorio responded with a flop, and that exchange sparked a verbal scuffle between the former and current Gilas Pilipinas player. Cooler heads eventually prevailed, but Romeo was ejected from the game after getting slapped with a flagrant two.

Tenorio got a technical, as well as Ginebra coach Tim Cone and GlobalPort coach Franz Pumaren who both tried to pacify the situation.

The late-game drama however didn’t in any way affect the result as Ginebra was very much in control. The Gin Kings pulled away after Justin Brownlee led a blistering third period where they burned GlobalPort from downtown.

Brownlee top-scored for Ginebra with 39 points, 18 of which came in the third frame. He made seven out of his 11 triples, while also grabbing nine rebounds and four assists.

Japeth Aguilar also had 21 points and eight rebounds as Tenorio finished with 12 points and eight assists.

Scottie Thompson finished with a double-double of 11 points and 12 boards.

Justin Harper scored 36 points and 22 boards while Romeo tallied 22 points but only nailed seven out of his 21 shot attempts.

Stanley Pringle also had 16 points as GlobalPort bowed out of contention after failing to overcome Ginebra’s twice-to-beat advantage.
